Life is funny...

If anyone knows me they know I am a planner. I love to plan. I plan for the week, I plan for the year, I plan my future. I need to have something exciting in my life to look forward to. I’ve learned, however, that no matter how much planning (or should I say dreaming) I do, a lot of times things just don’t work out. So far this year I’ve flirted with the thought of going to India to learn yoga, tried to move to Hawaii, imagined being in Hawaii for Christmas, and planned on going to Korea to teach English.

I know these probably seem far fetched, but the naïve imaginative girl in me really thought I would be able to pull it off. The India thing was more a dream than anything, but I did actually fly to Hawaii... only to turn right back around and start my life in San Diego instead. Christmas in Hawaii would have been amazing, but lack of income and rising ticket prices (among other things) prevented me from going. And teaching English in Korea… well, I really hoped it was going to work out. (In case my going to Korea is news to any of you... if anyone even reads this... I was supposed to go for the month of january. I was going to make some sweet money and be able to visit my mission and I was stoked). But I found out yesterday that Korea just wasn't in the cards for me. Apparently a H1N1 scare dropped english camp enrollment quite a bit and there's just not a big need for English teachers. So, no Korea for me.

But...
Even though I've been experiencing some big disappointments lately, I have learned some important lessons through all of this... I've learned that even though my plans don't work out, there is still someone out there watching out for me, making sure my life turns out wonderful:

  1. San Diego wasn't something I planned for, but ever since moving here things have just fallen into place.
  2. India didn't work out, but I was able to go on the most amazing trip of my life.
  3. I won't be spending Christmas in paradise, but I'll be able to spend time with my family here.

So, since good things came from my previous failed plans, I'm hoping january is filled with lots of adventure.

Jeremy got some free tickets to the zoo... so we went on Saturday and had so much fun.

Happy Halloween

I love Halloween.

This year I got to make sugar cookies with my cute little nieces, carve pirate pumpkins, dress up at work, and watch betelgeuse under the stars at old town with my cute bf. Greatest Halloween ever.

Best trip of my life: part 4

My trip ended with a super awesome weekend with my girlfriends in Baltimore and DC. Brookie showed us around her hometown, we got stuck in a ginormous rainstorm, and had the true Maryland experience by dissecting crabs with our bare hands. DC rained on us as well, but we made the most of it with our blue ponchos. The monuments were super cool, and it was so fun to spend some time with brooke, holly, and jess before we all went our separate ways.

seriously so sick...

i did this to this poor poor crab, but it was delish....

holly and i just love each other

this is me trying to look really pretty by this really disgusting water

ponchos!!

FDR monument... one of my favorites

you have no idea how hard we worked for this hamburgers. worth it.

holly and i stayed an extra day together and we loved every minute of it.

Best trip of my life: part 3

falling in love with new york city...
on my way back from greece, i spent a couple of days in new york city and then met some friends in DC... new york is amazing. my friend kent was nice enough to let me stay at his house... and i spent my days exploring new york. the MOMA was my favorite.

slumber party at kent's

this was my favorite piece at the moma
and this is it up close

also, i love taking my shirt off on my lunch break and tanning in the middle of new york city while i read the newspaper, don't you?

mykanos

I've been in hawaii for the last two weeks, so i never got to finish blogging about my amazing trip. the last island we went to was mykanos. i was only there for a day, so i didn't get to see too much of it, but it was pretty amazing. The wind there is insane.

me at the port...
we had no plan as to where we would stay when we got here. we were just walking around somewhat aimlessly, when a lady pulled up in a little car, asked us if we needed a place to stay, and then took us to a lovely little hotel, right by the port.

windmills!!!

jess consulting the map

paradise beach... who knew it was going to be a gay/lesbian club???

mykanos is so windy!

just having a light conversation at our hotel

we are there!

our trip ALMOST ended flawlessly, until we waited at the port for FOUR HOURS for my ferry to arrive. apparently, everyone in Mykanos knew that my boat was coming at 8:30 am rather than 5am, except us! I left a few days earlier than jess so I had a lovely 50 hour travel day all to myself. It started with a ferry from mykanos to athens... then a flight from athens to london... then switching airports, and flying from london to NYC... oh the joys of traveling cheap.
