Thanksgiving

I'm a little behind on blogging, but last Thanksgiving, Chris' parents and younger sister, Amanda, came down to Hattiesburg and spent the holiday with us.  Thanksgiving day we avoided slaving away in the kitchen and went to Cracker Barrel instead.  We made pies, and played card games, and Hazel LOVED having so much attention all weekend.

We also spent a day in New Orleans.  We ate macaroons at a cute little bakery, walked around the city park and saw some really cool sculptures, played disc golf (of course), and walked around the French Quarter.   Oh and Chris ate an alligator hot dog and it wasn't half bad.  We love that we live close to such a fun city.

We were so glad that the Hair's came down to spend Thanksgiving with us.  Holidays are always so much better with family!

Life in Hattiesburg

I'm still trying to catch up on blogging and since we kind of do the same things everyday I decided to post some of the pictures we've taken since we moved to Mississippi.  Hattiesburg has been really good to us so far.  We had a lot of changes in 2014 but I think we are adjusting pretty well.
Right behind our apartment is the "Longleaf Trace."  It basically an old railroad that was converted to a  running and bike path that starts at USM and goes west for about 43 miles.  Its been really nice living so close to the trace because Chris can ride his bike and get to school in about 3 minutes... and Hazel and I have someplace close where we can go walking and get out of the house every once in a while.

When we first got to Mississippi, we didn't have a crib for Hazel so we set up the teepee that my friend Rachel made for us as a wedding present (I had been dying for an excuse to have it out 24/7) and Hazel slept on the floor in the teepee every night.  When she started rolling over, we decided it was probably a good time to get her a crib, but she wasn't into it and would only sleep in her swing until about 2 months ago (when she was almost 7 months old).  Now she sleeps in her crib just fine and if I'm lucky, she'll sleep through the night!

Not sure how this sleeping position could be comfortable, but it sure looks adorable.

This was the first time Hazel tried out her crib and she was NOT a fan.

Chris turned 32 about a month after we got to Hattiesburg.  We face-timed his parents and we all sang him happy birthday.

We are in the Baton Rouge temple district.  Its been a new experience living two and a half hours away from the temple, and it makes it even more interesting when you have a brand new baby, but we are grateful for the temple and the opportunities we've had to go.

We had a couple of huge blessings when we got out here.  The biggest one was that Chris got an assistant-ship at school teaching a Lab, which saved us a ton on tuition and brings in a small income.  Another huge blessing was that my old job offered me a position working from home as a loan processor.  So I'm able to work and take care of sweet baby girl.  Unfortunately that sometimes means sticking her in front of the tv (see below)  but I try to make up for it when I can.  I was really nervous about how it would work out for us financially out here, but we knew this is where we wanted to be and had faith that it would all work out, and it definitely has.  A lot of prayers were answered and we are oh so grateful.

She wasn't too into baby food the first time she tried it.  For some reason I thought it was a good idea to start her off on pears... Pears are only a little sour when all you are used to is milk.

Chris and I got to fly out to California for a long weekend in October.  It was a much better trip for me than it was for Chris because he helped Marc and the boys put up a chainlink fence around their new house while I hung out with my family and went shopping with my sisters.  Totally not fair, right?  But we were so grateful for the chance to go home and see everyone.  I have the best husband and family ever.  We also got to take a 4 generation picture with Hazel and her Great Grandma and Grandpa Harrison.

For Halloween, we dressed up Hazel as a little flapper girl.  My mom and Amy, gave this outfit to me as a baby shower present and its seriously the CUTEST thing ever... but its PINK and lacy and totally girly so it was against my nature to put my baby in it... but it was the CUTEST and I had to use it... Halloween was the perfect occasion.
